Vigil rises from a gesture of restraint and sustained presence. Wheel-thrown in Mediterranean terracotta and altered by hand while the clay remains plastic, the sculpture develops through a continuous upward fold, enclosing an invisible inner core.
Its vertical movement is neither abrupt nor expansive. The form appears to hold itself in a state of quiet alertness, balanced between tension and stillness. The original geometry of the wheel remains perceptible beneath the hand-shaped deformation, giving the work a sense of fragile stability and concentrated energy.
A custom-developed coral glaze follows the ascending rhythm of the sculpture, creating a luminous surface that shifts subtly with the light. Colour and form become inseparable, reinforcing the bodily quality of the piece and the impression of an interior energy held in suspension.
In Vigil, the sculpture does not observe or confront. It remains present—upright, contained and attentive—transforming stillness into a physical state.
