Undercurrent develops from a subtle shift in axis. Wheel-thrown in Mediterranean terracotta and manually altered while the clay is still plastic, the sculpture extends horizontally, moving away from the conventional verticality of the vessel to suggest displacement, balance and suspended motion.
Its form seems to advance without fully detaching from its base, creating a quiet tension between weight and lightness. The deformation is neither abrupt nor accidental; it is controlled and deliberate, allowing the original geometry of the wheel to remain visible while being progressively transformed by hand. The result is a volume that appears to be in transition, caught between stability and movement.
A custom violet glaze reinforces this sensation of continuity. Light travels across the curved surface, revealing subtle variations in tone and emphasizing the elongated rhythm of the form. The glaze does not simply cover the sculpture; it becomes part of its structure, intensifying its depth and fluidity.
The work retains the physical memory of its making. Curves, inclinations and changes in volume record the direct dialogue between hand, clay and rotation. In Undercurrent, movement is not represented literally: it is contained within the form itself, producing a quiet sculptural presence that changes with light, viewpoint and surrounding space.
